If you want to contribute, start with something small:
That way you are pretty sure to not “lose your time”. My experience is that even if I spent time on things that won’t be merged in the end, I learned something. There are a lot of other options:
would like to inform you that I will no longer be participating in this forum.
I am pursuing a new opportunity and will be dedicating my efforts to it; should you notice my continued absence, please know that I have succeeded in my endeavor.
I hope you will welcome me back if I ever decide to return.
I wish you all the very best. I hold a genuine affection for this operating system and the members of this community, and I wish you happiness from the bottom of my heart.
Since this is a wiki Topic, anyone who wishes to continue the work in my place is more than welcome to do so.
I think I will continue with what I have started, but I won’t limit myself to this project alone; I will work on something else alongside it. This might slow down my progress a bit, but that’s fine by me.
I think what you say is correct; the mere fact that I get to learn something new makes it worth working on.
I’d also like the Qubes team to pay attention to projects like this. A beautiful and convenient desktop is a very good thing, and it’s good publicity too. Projects like this could greatly popularize Qubes OS and make working with it more convenient. If this project gets finished, it would be worth considering adding such a theme to the next version - same as with the Qubes Helper project. There are lots of cool projects on the forum that significantly improve Qubes OS - adding convenience, beauty, extra privacy and security. And all the work is already done.
May I take a look? I welcome contributions, and the level of quality is not an issue; if anything needs improvement, I will let you know, and we can work together to refine it.
(You can send it to me privately, if that helps.)
I currently don’t have any new ideas for further developing the interface, so I welcome any contributions—whether they are ideas or designs—that could help the project grow.
I am confident that your idea could genuinely help enhance the project.
I have provided an option for private communication in case you have any reservations about sharing your idea; however, I would be grateful if you could post it in the public discussion space. Our community here is very welcoming, so there is absolutely nothing to worry about.
Sure. This is my Qubes in a Windows Jacket Not that i like the style, but in some countries you attract attention when not having a common Windows looking system.
A universal theming software for all themes defined in text files, compatible with all terminals, with default themes for GTK2, GTK+, openbox and Tint2, that uses wal as it’s core, in which you can choose to interact with in two possible ways, so you can enjoy the powerful wal while having an easy to use GUI AND a powerful cli tool.
Also Having Terminals themed / colored to the VM color I find very usefull.
Also..
IMHO the Qubes Application Menu needs some work, it takes up a large part of the screen / does not auto fit the text properly, doesn’t close properly (because it has taken over icon/taskbar space) takes a lot of clicks to get where I want to get to (I don’t find the Favorite tab useful also) and just looks ugly. I would like to customize that or atleast make it more user friendly.
The initial design contains elements protected by copyright; therefore, I cannot create this design and include it as a default feature in its current form.
(However, once the project is complete, I can provide a guide explaining how to modify the design to achieve the look you desire.)
That said, the idea of incorporating a camouflage theme is a good one; would you like to discuss potential solutions in more detail, with the aim of arriving at a design that can be integrated into the project?
(Could you provide more details about the risk scenarios you were talking about? I think this information might be useful.)
I have already mentioned that I do not own a device with these specifications; however, based on my research, I gather that the issue revolves around the occurrence of dimensional distortions on the screen (please clarify if I am mistaken).
If the anomalies are confined to the user interface—specifically within dom0, excluding the components responsible for rendering other Qube applications—then I believe the project already possesses the necessary elements to address these issues, though it should be noted that the Xfce environment could represent a potential bottleneck.
This is the main reason for my hesitation to complete the project; the Qubes OS interface could be significantly improved with just a few simple adjustments. Therefore, the system’s interface is not as bad as I had imagined when I first wrote the post.
However, I am currently working on development for the sake of enjoyment and learning, so it is perfectly fine if it isn’t strictly necessary.
If you mean the drop-down menu when you click on the Q icon
I will certainly work on improving it, though that is not my primary focus at the moment. The project is currently progressing—solely within the planning and design phases—with nothing tangible yet to show for it. Therefore, my current priority is to achieve something concrete by moving forward with the actual coding. I will refine the design further later on, once I have sufficient time.
