Stuck and not able to Boot after installation

I followed the following guide

Not because I wanted plausible deniability but because I wanted to keep Qubes Boot loader separate from my laptop on a USB stick so that Windows have no chance of interference.

So I got my /boot/efi and /boot on a USB Disk and I put / on a 256 GB partition on same SSD on my laptop as my windows 11

When it asked me reboot, I did that . I had to go to UEFI and select my USB drive then on the screen where it asks Template configuration etc I chose following 2 things ( recommended so by a video on youtube)

make sysn net disposable
Enable system and template update over Tor anonymity network using whonix

Finally I get an erro dialog box saying
“stderr start failed internal error : unable to reset PCI device 0000:00 If 6 : noFLR PM rest or bus read available see so and so log for details”

When I clocked OK then it gave me a screen with many Green OK line , last was started accounts-daemon.service Account Service.
and then there was a cursor blinking. I thought there is some problem so after waiting for 5 or so minutes I just shutdown the laptop by Pressing prolonged on Start button ( I guess I made a mistake? , should have waited more may be 30 minutes to an hour for Qubes to do its things?)

When I restarted, it asked me for Disk password and then following three errors
all the Failed in red colour
Failed to start qubes-vm@sys-firewall.service and sys-net.service and sys-whonix.service

so I checked on google and added Qubes.skip_autostart when I got the command line by pressing e

NOW LATEST is as follows
Its stuck and saying
Warning : USB in dom0 is not restricted. Consider rd.qubes,hide_all_usb or usbcore.authorized_default=0.

Please help. Thanks in advance

Hello, someone please help. I did a reinstall and same issue.
In the template selection, I left everything default other than “make sysn net disposable”
After that installation began and at the end I got dialogue box saying
“[‘usr/bin/qvm-start’,‘sys-firewall’] failed
stderr start failed internal error : unable to reset PCI device 0000:00 1f.6 : no FLR PM rest or bus read available see so and so log for details”
I clicked ok and now it is a screen with bunch of Green [ OK ] written last line being “started accounts-daemon.service Account Service.”
and below it a curson blinking.
What should I do now?

Gosh… Everything is new to me and has to be googled.
So I did Alt F3 and got the command line
I am now logged in with my user id and password that I set in the installation process.
What to do now. Please help me getting the Qubes GUI.
I now have command line its saying myuserid@dom0 `1$ and then the cursor.

At the very least you can fix the PCI device error:

But more reasonably you should read your boot log, and, if it doesn’t contain any culprits on why GUI doesn’t work, read X log as well:

journalctl -b # Journal of the current boot
less /var/log/Xorg.0.log # Xorg logs

Thank you. So I did the no_strict_reset=True for 00_1f.6 and when I do qvm-pci it is showing as such.
Also went through journal… 1000s of lines … Cant figure out what went wrong. Several line were Orange, blue and even red.
I am at the command prompt of dom0 now unsure how to get to GUI
I tried qvm-start sys-gui … It says no such domain

You can search logs with /pattern or grep, see man less and man grep

I don’t know all errors that can prevent GUI from working either. One thing to look for is errors related to lightdm and xorg.

You shouldn’t, dom0 is guivm by default

Wait a minute more googling led me to the following

I think I will try reinstalling using kernel latest and will report back.
Initially I got exact same screen as this post.
However my PCI problem will persist which you helped fixing.
Thanks being with me.
From Windows to Qubes directly… Not so easy but hopefully it will be worth it.
Also I am installing boo and boot/efi on a USB so bit more involved process.
My GPU is Nvidia RTX PRO 1000 Blackwell. Seems like it will give me issues.
I will be back

Installed using latest kernel option and GUI is working now. I am inside the Qubes. Wow
I have marked this part " Installation with kernel latest" as solution to this Issue.

However I will continue on this thread for some more inputs from you experienced guys. I went to Dom0 command line and did the PCI attach with no-strict-reset=True for the ethernet

Then started a personal Qube and went to youtube to listen something nice but now the volume is not working…

You mean you can’t set the volume or there is no sound at all? Do you have your audio device attached to the youtube qube?

I created another thread for my audio because this thread was about me getting stuck post installation. This is resolved now.
I don’t know what a YouTube qubes is. I start Firefox in a personal qubes and YouTube audio does not work.
I don’t see any device in output devices in Audio mixer.
My laptop is too new I guess. Check my other thread please if you want to help. Thx
