Qubes OS GUI is not shown after installl

I tried to install Qubes OS 4.2.3 on my ThinkPad laptop. The installation went smoothly and laptop rebooted into the configuration. I kept everything at the default. Then after the configuration I got text screen with system-d messages, but there was no GUI:

I can see that I can switch to a login console using Ctrl-Alt-f2 and login there to dom0. I tried to restart lightdm.service, systemctl restart lights.service reported a success but there was no attempt to start GUI, no screen flickering or similar, the system continued to show consoles or systemd log.

Rebooting lead to the same situation. Systemd log screen and working access to try consoles, but no UI.

Any clues how to debug this?

What’s your CPU/GPU or laptop model?

The laptop is Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12.

CPU: Intel Core Uktra 165U
GPU: Intel Arc 8-Core GPU

Fedora 40 and Ubuntu 24.04 works on it without issues.

Try to reinstall Qubes OS with kernel-latest. There is a separate GRUB menu boot entry in the Qubes OS installer for this.

That sold the issue! Big thanks, I got Qubes OS running on Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12
