After a few days of operation, all Qubes sound plummy

I am using QubesOS R4.2.4.It is running stable, but after a few days, the music/audio playing on all Qubes is popping and choppy. The video is fine and smooth when playing videos, but is there anything we can do to improve the situation?

Currently, the problem has been resolved by rebooting, so it will be possible to reproduce the situation after the recurrence, but when the audio popping appears,

Create a new template different from Debian12-xfce, create AppVM and try to play it back
Verification of whether the same phenomenon occurs via a USB audio adapter .

The memory is loaded with 96 GB, so I don’t think there is a memory shortage problem. If there is any missing information, I will add it.

The dom0 has been updated, so I will try again for a while. This time, it is no longer possible to recover from suspend, but we are waiting for an update here too.

For the problem of inability to return from suspend,

Screensaver makes system unusable after latest Dom0 update (19-5) - User Support - Qubes OS Forum

We were able to solve the problem by applying the update here.

Ctrl + Alt + F2
sudo systemctl restart lightdm

I was logged in with this method , but then there was a problem with the volume control not showing the voice adjustment bar for all running Qubes, but this has also been resolved.

Hi @Nakaya_kita
I have been watching for answers to your question about sound, but I see that none have come.

Have you found any solution? I do not use audio much, but it is on my list of things to set up correctly, so I am interested to know what problems there are.
If there is still a problem, it may be useful to tell what hardware you have, and how your audio is configured … For example, do you have an (AudioVM)[Audio qube], or is it in Dom0, what sources do you use, and so on.

My main discovery with audio in QubesOS is that there are multiple places to control the volume, and many sources of audio. If I have any volume setting too small or too large, then I get choppy, noisy sound. I have also found very quiet noise coming from very low volume from web-browsers. I try to mute everything I do not want to hear.

When I had modecom keyboard connected by usb switch I had constant background noise.
Now, AJAZZ keyboard doesn’t do that.

Thanks for the reply. The hardware used is

M/B : Asrock B450 Pro
Graphics : AMD FirePro W5100 4GB

with audio output via HDMI and > sound from a

Yamaha YAS-107

based on radio contamination. Now, I have not been able to keep the PC running between suspensions for more than 4-5 days, but it could happen again. When this happens, the sound from any Qube becomes a choppy sound.Incidentally, before this happened, there was a characteristic that “the start of the sound, such as Youtube, starts slowly at first, then it is played back at double speed, and when it catches up, it returns to normal speed music playback”.I don’t know what this is.

It would be nice if I could set up an Audio qube, but I’m not that skilled and haven’t been able to achieve this. if I could create an Audio-only or USB-only qube, would that solve the problem?I have always thought that it would be a good idea.

Reading the replies, I wonder if you are using wired (which can interfere with radio waves) speakers? Is.In fact, I confirmed that I could hear the radio from a wired speaker near a radio tower, so this may be a route of that kind.

Radio interference is a pain.

You can make sure the electric supply cables are all plugged in close together, and run together, and that there are no big loops. You can verify they are all plugged the same way up, if your sockets have two positions. If the Yamaha or other sound output has 2-pin plug, try turning it. You can get ferrite rings, or other filters for mains. You can make sure the audio signal cable does not cross mains, or does at 90°. You can do all that - and maybe other good ideas from others- and sometimes it works, sometimes it makes it worse, and sometimes nothing.

For all the rest, I also cannot help.

Thanks.I believe my problem with this audio popping is something happening on the QubesOS side.My area is in an area where there are large towers of radio broadcasters, and in the past when I have used high-powered speakers, there has been a small noise mixed with a plopping sound when the volume is turned up.

Fortunately, the HDMI cable does not seem to carry radio waves and this problem has been solved.I had tried most of the things you taught me, but I also wrapped body tape around the cable.Thank you for your concern.
