I used 4.2 without problem. I wanted to install today the 4.3. I started install from a USB flash drive. When it finished then he restarted, but i got just a black screen with a cursor at the left corner, not more. I pressed the CTRL ALT F1 and there stayed this message:
‘’‘Warning: usb in dom0 is not restricted. Consider rd.qubes.hide_all_usb or usbcore.authorized_default=0.’‘’
Have you tried opening another tty by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2 to Ctrl-Alt-F6? tty1 (accessible by using Ctrl-Alt-F1) is reserved after booting your system for the failing login screen (lightdm-gtk-greeter).
If you can, try restarting the login screen by running sudo pkill lightdm-gtk-gre ; sudo lightdm-gtk-greeter after entering your credentials that you defined during the setup process.
I don’t think the Warning: usb in dom0 is not restricted. Consider rd.qubes.hide_all_usb or usbcore.authorized_default=0. has anything to do with you not being able to start the session.
Because it is probably a display problem, is difficult to help without knowing more about the CPU, and GPU or GPUs, that are present. If both motherboards were tested with same CPU, maybe there is an integrated GPU in it.
Did you try latest-kernel install?
Do you know how to do lspci after the start of the initial installer, or does the first boot from USB also give black screen?
It could be like one of my systems, where I must blacklist one of the modules for the first reboot, then do full update…
I sure hope it’s the latest. I’m gonna check, update if needed and report back whether that broke anything. No promises on when, though, lately I haven’t had much free time at all.
