Wi-Fi Not Working on Lenovo Legion 5 RTL8852CE

Hello! I am a new user of Qubes. I installed Qubes on my new laptop, but my Wi-Fi is not working. I connected my SSD to a friend’s computer, and the Wi-Fi worked there. I am using the Fedora 41 template by default and have installed the version with the latest kernel 6.12 My laptop immediately connects to Wi-Fi on Ubuntu. Please provide the exact commands and where to enter it  Thank you very much!!

You can start by providing hardware information about your laptop model and specifications.

In one of the topics, I saw instructions regarding this issue. It says that the installation of the driver depends on this command. But I don’t know which driver to install, I don’t know the command, and I don’t know in which cube it needs to be installed :upside_down_face: Help please

Do you remember the exact topic with the instructions?

I ran a test on another disk - I installed Debian 12. Wi-Fi didn’t work. Then I installed the kernel from backports (6.12.33), and Wi-Fi appeared after rebooting. Can I do the same in the sys-net debian vm?

If I buy a USB adapter, how do I connect it in Qubes? I saw old instructions that mention the sys-usb vm, but in my standard installation, I don’t see such a vm

Can I copy a vm? For example, copy a vm with the necessary drivers or kernel from another system, since I don’t know how to do this in Qubes without the internet?

Hi linuxuser1 - and welcome to the forum.

Have you tried connecting an ethernet cable to the machine? – I assume that should give you internet access …

For the copying a working VM to Qubes OS, remember that you’ll also add Xen between the VM and the hardware … and this can change a working VM into a non-working … :-/

Hello, friend! Thank you for the message! I am currently living in a rented apartment where I can’t connect to the internet cable. But I think I can find a cable from friends. What actions do I need to take after that? It seems to me that I should either install a specific driver or upgrade the kernel to 6.12.33 in sys-net vm?

Hi linuxuser1

I believe the ethernet port should “just connect” (the “RTL8111/8168/8211/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller” ; Kernel moduels: r8169) seems to known by sys-net.

I’m still not sure which Wi-Fi card you have – I have a Lenovo T14 Gen 3 w. AMD, with a “Qualcomm Wi-Fi 6E NFA725A” (that should be soldered) so for now, I plug in an old “Wi-Pi” USB Wireless module to get WiFi on that machine. :-/

Thank you for the response! I will purchase a usb adapter tomorrow, which worked with Debian 12 last year. Will Qubes automatically detect my adapter, or do I need to take any additional steps to connect to WiFi? Thank you.

Without knowledge of the hardware, I’ll not make any promise about how/if it will work on Qubes OS …

The Wi-Pi I use, is an old device (from before RaspberryPi got Wi-Fi on the board) with kernel support for ages …

An USB Wireless card should show up in sys-usb and your should be able to “attach” it to the sys-net - after that, you should see the wireless network in the widget at the top of the screen.

  • Click the Icon for USB-devices
  • Move the mouse down to the name of the USB-Wi-Fi
  • Click on the name
  • Move the mouse to where it says sys-net

I bought an adapter. It works great on Debian 12 (host) with kernel 6.1.0-34, but I don’t see this adapter in Qubes. Am I looking in the wrong place? Please help
