Well when I said Hyphanet has built in anonymity, I sorta meant it in a bad way. Due to how Hyphanet works, people are literally deterred from using it because the general folk feel like they have to host illegal material on their computers.
I can’t predict how things will pan out but the hope is that Freenet will be more general (and, because of no built-in anonymity, there will be no stigma around it), so it will gain more adoption. Anyone who wants anonymity can still have it (once the relevant technology is implemented).
I tried using Hyphanet for a few weeks, but then I stopped booting up my node because I failed to see the point frankly. That being said, you can still run Hyphanet if you want to, just use it in an appvm.
Well that’s because Freenet hasn’t even launched yet. Also (and I’ve only perused the clean spider index) Hyphanet doesn’t seem to have anything that useful (maybe I looked in the wrong place). At least on i2p you can browser reddit, hackernews, wikipedia and torrent stuff.
