I followed the guide to install Qubes OS with detached LUKS header here: Install Qubes OS with boot partition and a detached LUKS header on USB
I had done it in the past without issue on another computer (with the same SD card to hold the header).
This time, at first boot (when I click “Reboot” at the end of installation), I am not able to type my LUKS passphrase. When I reached the dedicated screen, first there is no typing bar. If I type F2 or F8, the typing bar appears (so my keyboard is working), but no input is taken in the bar. There is no way to type it. If I type esc (or if I boot without the ‘rhgb’ parameter), I see that I am not asked to give the LUKS passphrase (it’s like I do not reach this step and the system hangs before it).
I have followed the guide from scratch 4 or 5 time so I think it is not an error I made while following the guide. I also tried with kernel-latest, so it is probably not a kernel issue. I also tried plugging in a USB keyboard without success (as expected, since my built-in keyboard seems to work when typing F2 and F8)
If I follow the normal installation (with attached LUKS header), I have no issue, so it is related to the detached header.
I have 2 NVMe and on the other one a Linux distro is already installed (in case it is noteworthy). I intend to dual-boot and this I why I want to have a detached header. I know the other security concerns and it is compliant with my threat model.
I have gathered the logs from the functional install (with attached header) and the dysfunctional install (with detached header). I looked through the differences without seeing something that I could identify as the problem.
