Hello all,
I’m messaging from my phone now because I am unable to install qubes.
I have tried multiple versions from version 1 to the latest.
The installer just will not run.
This is the PC that I have been running qubes on for the past 6 or 8 years or something towards that.
I have tried USB drives USB 2 and 3 even micro SD on USB 3.1 drives, DVD boot using ventoy and the like.
I will provide more details shortly.
I can install the system on my laptop, from qubes 2 to the latest with no issues.
Transferring the driver to my desktop then just had a kernel panic and dies.
I’ve been running Qubes 4.1 for quite a while now and now just nothing seems to work.
I have tried copying over firmware files thinking that might have been the reason for it not boring, but to no avail.
But the installer on the desktop just locks up. Can’t even get past grub for anything below 4.

This point is where it gets stuck every time on version 4.1+
Whatever the highest drive is, SDA, sdb, SDC, SDd… or any others. Whoever the last one is it gets stuck there.
If I turn off that stupid quiet mode I get it stopping and locking at ETH0.
Really not sure what to do about it.
I used to be able to have qubes 3 running on my desktop no issues. Even move the drives between PC’s with ease, didn’t matter if they were Intel or AMD or even the age of the computers.
So I am not sure as to what to do here.
Advice appreciated.

Should provide details.
Laptop is an Intel i5 4th generation CPU.
Desktop is AMD 2nd generation CPU. AM4
Disabled on board NIC and it stops and locks just without the NIC being printed up.
What GPU do you use in your desktop?
Try to boot the installer with nomodeset
kernel command line option.

NVIDIA GTX 1060 or 1050, I have another couple of GPUs I have tried as well.
The nomodeset should be on an installed version or the installer itself?
Both.
There is an issue with NVIDIA GPUs and newer kernels:
Issue was reported here:
Building recent kernels with the reverted commit works for me.
I’m not sure when this will be fixed, for now I’ve been including a revert commit patch in my kernel builds and it’s worked perfectly on all recent releases.

Nomodeset worked brilliantly on the installer, got to this point and failed this time.
What logs should I upload?

So this issue extends back to Qubes 1?

This is the first time I have had this issue with he same installer on the same system that I installed on for this version only a few months ago when I did the last rebuild.
Nothing changed. Yet the issue exists?
What’s your CPU model? Does it have integrated GPU?
What’s your motherboard model? Does it have IPMI or something similar?
Maybe you’ve updated your BIOS or reset it and some option that was required for Qubes OS to work was reset as well.

No, nothing has changed at all. I have not upgraded anything in the past 6 years.
AMD 2600x, no integrated.
Don’t know what Impi is, will find out.
A360m-pro I think. Will have to find out once this installation is done.
Did you try to run “Test media and install Qubes OS” on your desktop? Was the test successful?

Okay, nowi have more details.
Started the drive after installing on the laptop
Laptop had a few issues that were resolved I believe.
On Desktop X11 log says can’t find any screens, with nomodeset set.
You can try to install kernel 6.6.42 in dom0 on your laptop and then try to boot with this kernel and without nomodeset
on your desktop.
