Qube tabs for Mullvad

I have downloaded Mullvad Browser, VPN, in a standalone qube. I can start them, but I have problems getting the qubes tabs showing for these programs. I would research more, but I hurt my hand. Anyone suggest an easy way to finish this.

Can you please explain what you mean by “qubes tabs”?

If you mean “menu entries”, you have to open the Qube Settings for your standalone, then choose the Applications tab, where you can add/remove applications that will show up on the menu entries.

Later addition: maybe run “qvm-sync-appmenus [standalone_name]” in Dom0 ?

Thank you for replying.

Yes, Menu Entries is a better term for what I seek. To better describe what I see.
Into my standalone VM Mullvad (based upon Fedora 40)
I download the tarball for Mullvad browser.
I extract it, which creates a folder in /tmp.
I drag and drop that folder “Mullvad Browser” into Desktop.
I can double click on the folder “Mullvad Browser”
I see two folders and a button “start-mullvad-browser-desktop”
Double click on button “start-mullvad-browser-desktop”
which gives a box with three options, I click on “make it executable”
Mullvad Browser starts, and seems functional

in the Mullvad VM I have created:
If I open settings/applications (tab) I do not see “Mullvad Browser” in list of apps that can be installed to create a menu tab (for the Mullvad Qube).

Thuner file manager look first column “computer” click
then look second column “File System” click
look at folder: etc

I think I need to get Mullvad VM/Desktop? folder “Mullvad Browser” into folder etc

which is file protections, and frankly there may be parts of of the
MullvadVM/Desktop/Mullvad Browser that need to be installed in other places in anther way.

Likewise I can put a folder for the extract “Mullvad VPN” which creates two folders opt usr, and I can double click opt/Mullvad VPN
browse down to button “mullvad-gui”
double click

I did not enter login numbers, but I think it works, In fact I have an icon red padlock on the right top of screen. which shows as unlocked.

I am trying to write a familiarization document for new qubes users, and discover something I have accomplished in the past, I do not know how to accomplish in qubes 4.2.2. Written more in the format used above.

This would go into the familiarization document to universally describe how to install tarballs, into Fedora Templates. Which I would consider more likely to be useful to keeping Private (perhaps even more secure qubes OS) for myself, and to empower new users to feel like qubes can be useful to them, as individuals.

I need to add Solenes little fix for finding repositories.

It is not exactly documentation. but to allow the implementation of some features of qubes, with description of a step by step procedure, rather than just a suggestion to read the manual the forum.

I feel that to a new comer, reading the qubes forum is like, these guys are talking in terms I don’t know, in a slang shorthand. How am I ever going to use Qubes on any level?

My hand hurts bit less this morning. I will research Linux Commands to finish this on my own. but if you want to save me the trouble. ???

There was another forum thread, earlier this year, about starting the Mullvad browser
IIRC, the solution was to remove “&” somewhere in the start-mullvad-browser-desktop, in order to prevent the backgrounding of the process…

@barto is absolutely right if you want to start the browser from the Q
Menu entry, but the details are slightly off.
The change you need is in mullvad-browser.desktop, and you need to
change the exec line to show just /usr/lib/mullvad-browser/start-mullvad-browser

I never presume to speak for the Qubes team.
When I comment in the Forum I speak for myself.

Seriously? :grimacing:

If I recall correctly I just installed it with apt/dnf. Their website has a command-by-command instructions for adding the repo and installing it that way.

Hi Catacombs. I just recently got rid of Firefox and replaced it with Mullvad on all my Debian Qubes. Here is the official instructions from the mullvad site. Mullvad Browser for Linux
And her is an article in the forums with a few more steps. Mullvad Browser has released package repos for Debian and Fedora - #5 by tanky0u
There are issues with the disposable qubes that this article addresses. It might help you with the standalone. Hope this helps.
