Only Diplay over thunderbolt 3

I’ve found some general considerations about thunderbolt, to support everything.
I just want to support the display. I there a comprehensive way to do that as a beginner ?

I have an Intel JHL6340 Thunderbolt 3

Use of USB C 3.2 and Thunderbolt ports

I have a couple of questions before purchasing a new laptop, since most new ones have only two kinds of ports: USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (with DisplayPort) Thunderbolt 4 (USB 3.2 Gen 2) Can I hotplug the video output cable in the non-thunderbolt type-C port? Can I hotplug usb C devices in the non-thunderbolt type-C port? If the answer to #2 is no, can I leave an adapter plugged in and just change the device connected to the adapter? Will I need to connect the PCI bridge to dom0 or sys-usb?

Trying to use the usb ports on a thunderbolt dock

I know it’s been a while, but I thought I would give an update to this. My Thunderbolt dock’s USB ports have been working well with a separate USB qube for them. In addition to assigning the dock’s USB devices to the new qube. I also needed to update the mouse policy to allow USB mice connected to the dock to work. I decided to block USB keyboards (the default behavior) because the dock emulates a USB keyboard, and I can think of no sane reason for that. Networking works with some babysitti…

You can check the settings in your firmware, it probably has some options for configuring the thunderbolt port, but on my laptop it is not possible to only enable the display.

On my laptop, the thunderbolt USB controller is added to sys-usb, I think it’s safe to use.

Keep in mind if you change the thunderbolt settings in the firmware it might change the id of your devices, so you might manually need to assign the correct devices to your sys-usb.
