Is there a tutorial on how to use Bisq1 on whonix?

Is there a tutorial on how to setup Bisq1 on whonix vms?

This tutorial explains it explicitly for Bisq2, not Bisq1.
Bisq2 works fine that way.

I did the steps, just with Bisq1 and also changed the paths from Bisq2 β†’ Bisq
Would that create a tor over tor scenario?

Here is a relevant topic on the Whonix Forum:

The quotes in that topic are not on the Bisq Wiki page anymore. Therefore it is, as far as I can tell, not helping me to be honest.

It works, but only when I use a bridge in the tor config from bisq.

When I start it with this command:

/opt/bisq/bin/Bisq --torControlPort=9051 --torControlPassword=notrequired --socks5ProxyBtcAddress=127.0.0.1:9050 --useTorForBtc=true

It starts and runs fine. Can someone tell me if I still have a Tor-over-Tor scenario here?

@adrelanos

You’re specifying that it should use Tor when it’s already within the Workstation. By default, any application you run within the Workstation goes through a Tor tunnel. Specifying that you want Bisq to create its own tunnel would create a Tor-over-Tor scenario.

It starts with its own version of tor.
Thats why I made the initial post. asking if following the tutorial for bisq2 and changing the directories for bisq1 prevents exactly this.

You can check the wiki history to search for the last version documenting Bisq 1.

Note:

Consider this unsupported.

Thank you. I finally found what I searched for.

Is there any reason, that the guide for Bisq1 was removed? Bisq1 and Bisq2 are different applications that serve different purposes and are developed seperately.

If that is so, then the reason for no longer documenting Bisq1 is:

Upstream failing to use proper application names.

Typically:

  • 1 and 2 typically represent version numbers;
  • Higher version numbers are supposed to replace lower version numbers.
  • Old versions are deprecated (a while) after newer versions are released;
  • Applications with different purposes have different names - not only a different version number.

Stray off such common conventions will lead to confusion.

No. Bisq1 and Bisq2 are separate applications that can be installed
alongside each other.
The numbers are not in the form usually used by versioning, and it’s a
mistake to think that they represent this. In this case these are
different names, just as TV1 is a different channel from TV2.
The Bisq1 guide should be reinstated.
