So I had a very similar issue years ago, the caveat is, the work around for it isn’t working here.
so I tried 4 different things, none worked, see the pastebin link (it was too long to put in the message here). I have also noticed that trying to install fairly mundane things like nfs-common in an appvm gives me a similar error:

You can try to add to command line:
--skip-unavailable to skip unavailable packages
in looking through the forum I wasn’t able to find any other posts that seemed to be similar so alas, I am posting in hopes a guru can help

PS When i logout or reboot and then check the DE option, XFCE is the only thing that comes up.
