Installing and running KDE as Desktop Environment

Was KDE dropped as the primary DE because of the “log errors” and the “icon bug”? I am curious because I think I’d like to try using KDE as primary, since I find XFCE unenjoyable so far, even after hours of tweaking it to make it look a bit more modern. I don’t want to jump into something to add more complexity, or problems, to my use of Qubes as a Daily driver though. since I still haven’t sorted all the other issues yet. Is there some other reason it was changed to XFCE that would be important for a newbie to know?

No, it was dropped because of perceived bloat and because it was “ugly”!

I advocate KDE because I think it works better with Qubes than Xfce,
and is easier for new users to work with. The look of it doesn’t much
matter to me, but it does to some people. The features do matter to
me.

Give it a try. It’s easy to switch between Xfce and KDE, and easy to
uninstall if you don’t like it.

Trying to change a theme, but without much success.

The folder I used is /usr/share/plasma/desktoptheme/, but in the System Settings the only change I see is in Plasma Style section, when I try to switch for the new theme, my task manager bar and the menu become full transparent no matter what (custom)theme I pick.
