If your topic was about possible backdoor in Qubes OS then there are already many topics about this:
sorry for a bit off-topic, but the question will be on-topic.
we know, that the purpose of privacy, is security. for example:
magician need to keep their magic secret in private.
in culinary, there is what is called secret recipe.
writer or producer, keep their product in private / secret, before release.
public speaker, keep their content in private / secret, before event.
but also, there is misuse of privacy, for example:
privacy related technology, maybe can be misused to do some illega…
I read in another forum a post about the European Union wanting to backdoor e2ee conversations. They claim it is only to prevent the distribution of child abuse materials but there is of course no way to know that and we have to simply take their word for it. Besides, the ‘think of the children’ argument is often used when governments are about to invade our privacy in a massive way.I seriously doubt this will only be used to tackle the problem of child exploitation, it seems likely to me that th…
Just came across relevant news that might be a point of discussion (and maybe the seed of a new thread):
Hacker News: “They introduce kernel bugs on purpose”
Apparently some university research team was making malicious commits to the Linux Kernel and said it was part of an experiment when caught. Just like how there’s no good reason to eliminate the possiblity a Lab Leak, the thought that a nation state might employ just such a tactic to insert bugs, vulnerabilities, and backdoors should not…
Have you considered that Qubes may be a honeypot?
As a typical PC user I have to just take peoples word for it that qubes is secure and all I really may be doing is telling the world that I have something to hide while gaining no added privacy.
I would assume government agents dont need qubes so who is it for? It seems as though most security people find an OS like Kali to be plenty secure. It sure is easier in Kali or Arch to know exactly what processes are running on your machine. and how th…
etc
But in the end it’s just an idle talk and there is no real solution to the problem.
And in the end this is not a problem specific to Qubes OS. This problem exists for any other project.
I think it’s better to discuss this topic in some general security-related forum since there are just more security-focused people there compared to a relatively small group of people using Qubes OS and more people = more opinions and ideas and higher chance of finding the solution.
