Clevo PC50HR

Remarks

One must disable VDM Mode in the firmware settings, otherwise the installer gets stuck on startup. Once installed, everything works like a charm, but I’ve went directly with kernel-latest and sys-usb. Tested onboard LAN, WiFi, HDMI&audio, speakers and it also works with an external thunderbolt dock for HDMI.

Thank you for HCL report and additional information. Can you please also fill a detailed report based on this template:

Example of user providing the answers is here. The more information the better, it may be helpful to other users, thank you.

Here’s an initial report. I’ll update when/if I have time for more tests.

Installation

VDM Mode must be disabled in the firmware settings for the installer to work.

Basic Input

  • Keyboard - works
  • External USB mouse - works
  • Touch-pad - works
  • Touch-pad supports “tap as click” and scrolling with 2 fingers works - both work
  • Display brightness change shortcuts - works
  • Sound volume shortcuts - works
  • Keyboard led and keyboard brightness change shortcuts - doesn’t works, not even in a normal Linux, had to use windows to disable the keyboard backlight on boot
  • Output of xinput --list from terminal of dom0 - there’s not such such binary in dom0 or sys-usb, will update later
  • Check if keyboard and/or touchpad is PS/2 connected (how to check) - keyboard and touchpad work with sys-usb paused, but PS/2 is not used

Internet and bluetooth

  • Ethernet cable connection - works out of the box or actions were required? - works out of the box
  • Ethernet cable connection - speed - normal speed
  • Wifi connection - works out of the box or actions were required? - works out of the box, with kernel-latest
  • Wifi connection - speed, is reliable over the time? - normal speed
  • Bluetooth - works out of the box or actions were required? - not tested, visible by lsusb in sys-usb
  • Bluetooth - shows devices, connection process works, sound output or copying works. - not tested

Suspend

  • Suspend/Resume works - works out of the box or actions were required? - works
  • Does resume breaks WiFi, if it does, how to recover it? - works
  • Does resume breaks Bluetooth, if it does, how to recover it? - not tested

Video [increase VCPU to the qube before test]

  • Fullscreen and windowed video playback of youtube - 720p/1080p/2K/4K in Firefox. Does it drop frames? - tested with 2 VCPUs on windowed mode: there are 5% dropped frames on a normal 1080p video and about 60% dropped frames on a 1080p@60fps.
  • Video file playback of file using mpv/mplayer/smplayer - 1080p? Higher resolutions and bitrates? - tested a 1080p video, looks fine
  • Multiple displays configuration works (using available DP/Thunderbolt, HDMI or other video ports - all configurations work. video playback tests were made with mirrored displays: the eDP plus an HDMI connected via Thunderbolt.

Audio

  • Speakers (sound playback) (was sys-audio used?) - works, including with USB sound card, no sys-audio
  • Head-phones via 3.5" jack (works, automatically turns off speakers?) - works, speakers are turned off
  • Sound output via HDMI - works
  • Audio-optical (S/PDIF) output - not tested

Fans

  • Are fans silent on idle? - they work like a charm, fans turn off even with 3 qubes up and running and 2 videos playing in the background
  • Are fans noisier than on Windows/Linux?. If they are, was thankfan or similar software tried? - fans are slient, they work the same as on other Linux, didn’t test Windows

Other

  • Have you tried running Windows 10 HVM qubes? - no
  • Does CPU boost seem to be working properly? - I have no idea what you mean by CPU boost

Specs:

  • Link to the laptop page on the brand website - Not available, it’s a white-label product
  • Display native resolution - 1920x1080@240fps
  • Maximum possible RAM memory - not sure, 32GB installed
  • CPU score (from PassMark - CPU Comparison) - not tested
  • Number of USB Controllers and if more than one: information what internal USB devices and USB ports are connected to which controller. - 1 controller, 3 external USB devices, 1 Thunderbolt USB Type C
  • Internal TPM - v2 present, not tested

P.S. Is there an aggregated list of these “extended” reports?

Thank you.

Currently no, there is no compare table yet. But it is possible to make it anytime by anyone, as all information is stored on the forum.

Thanks for the HCL report. I just submitted a pull request to add it to the HCL database.

Best,

Flavio
