XFCE repeatedly crashes (fresh Qubes OS installation)

I installed Qubes OS using the “kernel-latest” option because the other methods were resulting in errors.

The issue: 3-10 minutes after running Qubes OS,

  • Some qubes become unresponsive and others promptly force close (some types of qubes like Files continue functioning).
  • The XFCE panel disappears/crashes.
  • Hovering the cursor at the top does not bring back the panel and the browser qubes force close.
  • Keyboard shortcuts stop working.
  • Fan gradually ramps up to full speed and stays there indefinitely.
  • Right clicking on the desktop displays empty rectangles for text characters as shown in the image below.

Troubleshooting steps:

  • Removed fedora-40 template and set the fedora-41-xfce template as the default for the mgmt dvm and fedora-40 for the other qubes.
  • Removed the removable 8 GB RAM stick and ran the OS with only the soldered 8 GB RAM.
  • Will attempt to install Windows onto the other drive and test the RAM there.

Here are the laptop’s specs:

  • Hardware model: Lenovo ThinkBook 15 G2 ITL
  • Processor: 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz × 8
  • Graphics: Mesa Intel® Xe Graphics (TGL GT2)
  • RAM: 16 GiB
  • Two 1TB M.2 SSDs

It turns out that the soldered RAM is faulty. This is what has been causing crashes on Qubes OS and many other tested OS.
