I installed Qubes OS using the “kernel-latest” option because the other methods were resulting in errors.
The issue: 3-10 minutes after running Qubes OS,
- Some qubes become unresponsive and others promptly force close (some types of qubes like Files continue functioning).
- The XFCE panel disappears/crashes.
- Hovering the cursor at the top does not bring back the panel and the browser qubes force close.
- Keyboard shortcuts stop working.
- Fan gradually ramps up to full speed and stays there indefinitely.
- Right clicking on the desktop displays empty rectangles for text characters as shown in the image below.
Troubleshooting steps:
- Removed fedora-40 template and set the fedora-41-xfce template as the default for the mgmt dvm and fedora-40 for the other qubes.
- Removed the removable 8 GB RAM stick and ran the OS with only the soldered 8 GB RAM.
- Will attempt to install Windows onto the other drive and test the RAM there.
