We have had to resort to VPN guides created by community members because VPN providers, even ones who have previously created guides for Qubes 4.1, have not created guides for 4.2 even though 4.1 is EOL. The fact that community members have created VPN Guides is great but these guides aren’t exactly audited for leaks which is really the job of the VPN provider itself. Why don’t vpn providers care about it’s qubes users?
Mullvad and IVPN specifically promote qubes, and Mullvad even claims that their support staff uses Qubes, so they are either lying, or their support staff is using an EOL Qubes version, or they are using their own Qubes VPN setup that they haven’t released to the public for whatever reason.
This seems unacceptable and Qubes seems to be neglected as an operating system but these VPN companies.
Hard for end users to tell. For example, the mullvad guide for 4.1 does NOT work for 4.2. So I assumed the same was going on here. Regardless, now that 4.1 is end of life, why would you even want the guide to be have been “written for 4.1”. Wouldn’t it be best to do a rewrite for 4.2 or if that guide is working then, say it’s working for 4.2.
thank YOU for making all the current vpn guides for 4.2
not sure if you are employed by IVPN or simply affiliated but its nice that you made guides for “competitor” providers as well, for the benefit of the community. Wish this wasn’t necessary though and that these providers did it on their own.
I’m working for IVPN as a technical writer in freelance, I’m writing the privacy guides on their website, but as I’m using Qubes OS so I’m also trying to keep its related documentation up to date.
