What's new in the docs since the migration?

Note: While reading an issue about the last update date of documentation pages, I thought that it could be useful to have some kind of weekly reviews but for the docs. The following is a modest attempt to provide such a thing. I have only kept the substantial changes since the migration to Read the docs, in September.

Disposables

The pages related to disposables now introduce the preloaded disposables (a new feature of Qubes OS R4.3). The whole content (text and screenshots) has been corrected, improved and expanded:

Windows qubes

All the pages related to Windows qubes have been updated to the latest Windows, QWT and Qubes OS versions.

How-tos

There are three new pages:

Pages related to Qubes OS R4.3

Qubes R4.3 release schedule and Qubes OS 4.3 release notes have been added to the docs.

The screenshots and the configuration screen description of the Installation guide have been updated to the Qubes OS R4.3 installer.

Split GPG-2

The page about Split GPG-2 has been improved but there is still some work to do here.

For developers

The section about Automated tests with openQA has been expanded.

Bonus: new community guides

I think this is a great idea, I look forward to reading future posts (and docs) :+1:

Too bad documentation isn’t updated often enough to publish this weekly. Maybe monthly? More realistically quarterly…

Also how about cherry picking some guides over the same period? Assuming there are any of course

Maybe more? :upside_down_face:

What do you mean?

Track not just changes to the documentation over a period, but also published community guides, and include most notable guides into newsletter. They are quasi-documentation after all.

That’s a good idea but it’s sometimes difficult to understand and to appreciate the quality of some of them. And I need to go back to my index project to build some kind of git log for the guides.

The migration to Read the docs is now complete, but when is the actual content of the new Qubes OS Documentation will be update to reflect version 4.3?

What specifically concerns me is the pacat-simple-vchan functionality, which is suppose to be for “Qubes R4.1 and later” was removed with version 4.3.
I’ve created a few posts in the forum asking about this, but got zero responses.

So clearly this functionality has been removed, so the docs need to be updated, but I would like to know what other mechanism replaced that functionality, and why was it removed in the first place.

I hope i can get some answers here, because the forum and documentation are no help on this matter.

I edited the post with the new community guide during the same period of time:

Content of the edition for anyone reading this by email

Came here after reading this in the email.
I just see a click for more details link, pointing to this post in this thread.
So the expandable list in not readable directly in the email, at least for me.

The list “Bonus: new community guides”, from the first post, was visible though
So I am not sure what is the point/how to use this last post.

I’m afraid that it is mostly up to the community?

If something has been removed in R4.3 and you can’t find any information about this, I think it would be appropriate to open an issue on Github.

If you don’t get any answer on your topic, I don’t think you will get more replies on a topic with a different subject.

I used the [details] tag to hide the duplicated content from the users of the website, I thought that the email users get the raw markdown, sorry.

This kind of update is really nice! Thanks everyone who contributed and @parulin for the epic compilation!

@alimirjamali even though this is not dev-facing, maybe it could be worth shouting out in the next weekly-review, if you if you like the idea :slightly_smiling_face:
