What is the optimal OS choice when running an application with sys-whonix as network qube?

I used to use fedora as the OS with appVMs that had sys-whonix as the network qube. This was for installing and running applications where I wanted the privacy that sys-whonix offers. If I was using an internet browser, I used whonix ws Tor Browser with sys-whonix. But I thought using fedora was smarter for applications since it was updated more frequently than debian (which whonix ws is based off). But then I read that using other OS than whonix ws would inhibit some features whonix ws has for fingerprinting.

Recently whonix ws was not letting me install an application (sudo no longer works) which made me think I’m using whonix ws incorrectly (basically for anything other than using Tor browser and other preinstalled applications. I found a workaround to install but it got me thinking.

I’d prefer to use fedora with sys-whonix but won’t if I’m losing privacy features or security.

I think that you should first decide if you stick to whonix recommendations (asking whonix forums would be appropriate for that).
