My machine already comes with some old version of Fedora 35 or so and older Qubes 4.1. Should I race to the top and get Fedora 40, or perhaps one version lower for stability/security reasons? Same question for Debian and Whonix.
Have a look at the officially supported Templates: Supported releases | Qubes OS
They all are considered stable and recommended for use. Also, check which ones are supported to work with which Qubes versions.
