Vcl Media Player crashes on opening a video file

Hello all,

I’m having a problem with vlc media player. Every time I try to open a video file (any video file) vlc opens very briefly and sometimes flashes a bit and then disappears.

This is new and has only started happening recently, it worked perfectly before.

I launched vlc from the terminal to see if I could get any useful information. It crashed again just as described but I got the following error message:

user@General:~$ vlc

I should also point out that I am getting my video files from an external hard disk that I have attached to my “General” qube using the widget.
I’m afraid I don’t really understand the output above so would appreciate any insights folks might have.

Thanks in advance

What audio device is used if you open the audio widget in the systray?

If you are using the nvidia audio device, try selecting a different audio device.

Thanks for the reply.

C Media Electronics Inc Mpow Is my usb headphones. There isn’t much else in the systray for audio.
I made sure that the audio device above is attached to the qube and tried again but it’s still doing the same crash
