Just happily confirm all done and migrated, enjoying v 4.3rc3 !
Again, many thanks to development team, my hat’s down for you !
All went smooth,as per upgrade script however,
I had few standalone VMs with full working Linux Distro and two with Windows, the upgrade process step1 failed in to starting the VMs then, unable to modify, just gave an eror and whole process failed. All other standard templates and standalone ran fine.
I had to run a backup of those qubes and delete them.
Restarting the upgrade went fine there after.
Another annoyance i had: few of my standalone qubes werent live and operational but migration had to go through with update/upgrade. Will have been nice to delete them as they werent good,it was saving time in the stage 1 and 5 (i guess). A good pre-migration cleaning no harm done.
Yes, it’s annoying that it fails by default if you have literally any standalones without Qubes integration. Fortunately there’s a switch to skip their upgrade:
--skip-standalone-upgrade, -k Don't upgrade StandaloneVM to R4.3 repositories.
I found this in the upgrade script, it’s the command to rollback dom0 after an upgrade. Run this command and reboot. Replace poolname with the actual name of the lvm volume group I think. Not sure what it is by default…
Ive ran ISO > USB and installed fresh & over the 4.3 version.
Ran backup - >restore from Lenovo working laptop to Dell Precision fresh and all good now.
Seems faster and works fine. Lesoson learned
I have to compelte the third device, the office DELL workstation…afradi to touch it for a while.
