Update screen saver

When I open XScreenSaver from system tools, this message pops out:
“Warning:
This version of xscreensaver is VERY OLD! Please upgrade!..”

It seems that the screen saver in gui domain is part of dom0. I’m afraid to brick anything there.

The version in QubesOS is 5.43, while the latest release is 5.45

Any secure solution to update it ?

This is a known issue, and Qubes packages its own updated version of
xscreensaver,which should find its way to you soon.
The warning is annoying but no more than that.
You wont brick anything by waiting, or by installing by hand, or
ignoring it.
