Update 4.2.3 -> 4.2.4

Like to know the best way to move to the new release. Is there any automatic method or do I have to do a full load from a usb drive with 4.2.4 install. Also what is the best way to move the old configuration to 4.2.4

If you do a dom0 update, it will move you to 4.2.4 (check global setting, it’ll change)

It didn’t update the version number for me. Neither in global config, nor in /etc/os-release.

https://www.qubes-os.org/news/2025/02/18/qubes-os-4-2-4-has-been-released/#how-to-get-qubes-424:

  • If you’re currently on Qubes 4.2 (including 4.2.0, 4.2.1, 4.2.2, 4.2.3, and 4.2.4-rc1), update normally (which includes upgrading any EOL templates and standalones you might have) in order to make your system essentially equivalent to the stable Qubes 4.2.4 release. No reinstallation or other special action is required.

@adw

Why isn’t the version number updated?

It is:

[user@dom0 ~]$ grep ^PRETTY /etc/os-release
PRETTY_NAME="Qubes OS 4.2.4 (R4.2)"
[user@dom0 ~]$ rpm -qf /etc/os-release
qubes-release-4.2-12.fc37.noarch

Check your update history…

It is

Hm. You are right. After running another dom0 update it is.

This is strange because yesterday I also ran a dom0 update and it didn’t get an update. I was assuming that the announcement meant the update was already published.

In my case it did update but I didn’t know it. What happened was that I did a dom0 update either before or at the same time as the press release on the availability of the update. Checking /etc/os-release in dom0 confirms the update

Related.
Note: it has been fixed now, the qubes-release rpm has been updated in dom0.
