Continuing the discussion from Boot gets stuck at mulitpath siblings:
PC:
nvidia RTX 4070 12GB
i7-10700K
32GB DDR4
I’ve tried using the different kernels with and without -nomodeset, on both iso ver 4.2.4 and 4.2.1, and I still get stuck here. If any more info is needed, please ask. I’ve tried to install qubes many times over the last 5 years, and have never gotten past the iso once.
Update: Read through my old posts, remembered to use DD mode with Rufus. Reflashing and trying once again.
Forgot to upload an image.
Update: I wrote in DD mode, but my ISO keeps failing the checks. I just bypassed it for now, and it’s saying my hardware doesn’t support IOMMU/VT -d/AMD-VI, Interrupt Remapping even though it very much does.
Update 2: Updated my BIOS, and now have a verified ISO. After flashing in DD mode, both as gpt and mbr, it is now telling me to “select kernel first” even with a previously working usb, that worked just before the bios update.
Edit: problem was secure boot got re-enabled… But now I’m back at the integ check failing (at 2-5%), even though I verified the checksum.
It’s failing at exactly 4.8%. What am I doing wrong? I’ve tried combos between ISO/DD mode, GPT/MBR, and three different USBs, as well as Qubes v4.2.1 - 4.2.4. This is driving me insane.
Update 3: I found that it IS a problem with the ISO, at least the failing at 4.8%. Another person trying it alongside me has the exact same issue, failing at the exact same spot. We are trying balena now.
Edit: Balena did not solve it.
Update 4: Read to flash in linux, make sure not to mount. Did not fail the check, however it is still saying that my hardware does not support IOMMU/VT-d.
Update 5: The VT-d setting was very hard to find, and it previously was NOT where I found it. Qubes seems to be installing as intended.
Update 6: (this is getting out of hand. I hope this thread either helps someone troubleshoot, or helps someone decide against trying qubes.)
I managed to get it installed. However, the mouse settings do absolutely nothing. The sensitivity is way too high, and changing it has no effect. My monitors are arranged wrong, and making any attempt to re-arrange them results in me needing to click on the opposite monitor to interact with anything. Disabling one, re-arranging, then re-enabling it only kind of works, as it then decides to mirror the main screen (Not using primary here, as that setting seemingly has no effect.)
I want to like Qubes. I want to give it a fair shot, but it just feels like it’s fighting tooth and nail to prove why everybody hates it.
