The USB device cannot be mounted inside the Qube

Hello, everyone.

The USB device cannot be mounted inside the Qube. The USB that was able to be mounted normally until yesterday suddenly cannot be mounted. A message says “Device attach failed:” appears.
I think this is the same problem as the two articles below, but I find it difficult to explain and don’t know exactly what actions should be taken to solve it. I would appreciate it if you could explain it clearly.

I’ll write below about other things I tried. I tried using another USB port or inserting a USB port from another port, but the result was the same. USB in a Qubes installed in another device As a result, it mounted correctly, so it wasn’t a USB side issue. I tried restarting several times, but it didn’t work.

Could you paste the complete error message, including anything after ‘Device attach failed:’? That would help narrow this down before changing anything. Please redact any personal details.

Thank you for your response. It’s not a long error code, just an error message appears.

I want to transfer data from the appQube to a USB, so I attach the USB to the appQube and use it. When that happens, the USB icon appears in the app’s file manager, so normally, just sliding the file there would successfully transfer the data.

However, although the icon appears, I can’t transfer the data, and when I try to do it instead, a message says, “failed to mount n (this USB name). not authorized to pereform operation.”

By the way, I’m not sure if this will help, but just before this incident, just once, I was told that a password was needed to handle the USB.

I never set such a password, nor have I ever been told that. In the end, I ignored that message and tried reinserting the USB into the Qubes, which caused this kind of bug.
Also, that message never appeared again after that.

At that time, the USB I was plugging in was new, not secondhand, and didn’t have a password setting function. Also, that USB can be used normally on Qubes on another device.

Thanks, the full message helps: the file manager is reporting a mount authorization error. Which Qubes OS release are you using, and which template is that app qube based on? Please don’t change any permissions or enter a password on the basis of this error alone.

Qubes is version 4.17.5.
This happens with whonix17appQube. However, there are some whonix17appQube, and the same error appears in all of them. I haven’t tried it on the Fedora app or similar platforms. I tried it in more detail after you told me. Here are the results.

・What I tried and the results
Copies of existing WhoNix apps and newly created Whonix apps from existing WhoNix templates could not be mounted.
Next, I created new Fedora APP and Fedora Relative, and as a result, I was able to mount it.
Next, I created a new whonix template, and based on that, I made a new whonix app, which resulted in the mounting.

・In other words
From this result, it was clear that there was a problem with the existing whonix template.

Until now, I hadn’t tried this kind of thing because this error occurred on all the different whonix app Qubes made up of different whonix templates. So I thought it wasn’t a specific Qube but a systemic issue.

In any case, my goal of migrating data seems possible by transferring data to a mountable Qube and then transferring it to a USB.

Thank you Rei.
