Does anyone know the same symptom?

  • The screen shifts to left when disk password is requested.

In my case, the main built-in screen shifts left. The second built-in screen is perfect.

The detail of the symptom is here.

  • The lines of messages on function keys are visible in the second built-in screen but they slip out of the frame of the LCD by the shift.
  • The text field of disk password is at the center of the second built-in screen. But, the left half of the same text field slips out of the LCD.

This might be important since a PC with two built-in drives is rare.

Reproducibility is complicated.

  • This symptom is stable in the sense it happens every time Qubes OS starts (after the second installation of Qubes OS).
  • I did not see the symptom in the first installation of Qubes OS. (I booted the Qubes OS several times.)

I doubt the initial EFI-volume influences this symptom.

  • The first installation: I booted the PC from the installer-USB of Qubes OS right after power-on.
  • The second installation: I saw the grub-menu of the built-in drive, which was installed by Q4OS after power-on. I chose UEFI-settings and configure the booting drive/partition to the installer-USB. Then, I exited from the UEFI-settings so that the PC booted from the installer-USB.

Currently, I see the version Grub version 2.06 of grub on start-up.

I feel the booting drive/volume changes automatically.

  • It forgets the priority of the installer-USB and automatically gives higher priority to the built-in drive after boot or after shutdown.

This is also one of the sources of my failure in protecting the installer-USB from the behavior of Windows11. I easily made an error of booting from the built-in drive in the second cycle of booting from the installer-USB, shutdown, intend to boot from the installer-USB but resulting in booting from the built-in drive.

If this symptom of hidden text field of disk password is rare, I guess the issue is in the different action of the installer according as the EFI-volume of the built-in drive is marked as active or not.

If the symptom is common, I must look for some other explanations.

Do your two displays have different resolutions?

Here are the data of the main and the second screens.

  • Main Screen: 2880 x 1800
  • Second Screen: 2880 x 864

They have the same horizontal resolutions.

The window system (wayland?) does understand the correct resolutions. Indeed, Q-symbol of each screen is correctly centered.

I found the same symptom appears at startup of Ubuntu.

I noticed that the disk password input was shifted left also, while the Q image is still centralized. This only appears to happen while I have an external monitor connected. Monitors are of different resolution. The display manager user and password input is still centralized. I did notice it one month ago also.

Thank you ben-grande for verification. For my case, the smaller screen of the same horizontal resolution causes the shift of image on the larger display.

For the case of external display plugged, I imagine the larger screen influences the smaller display.

I am afraid Qubes OS needs help from the user, like typing a certain key (function key?) hints the OS to switch the screen for proper centering.
