Template to AppVM Application Error

I downloaded the latest version of OpenOffice here, I then copied it over to a templateVM and installed it using the following instructions. After installing I rebooted the qube and opened it. Everything worked fine. I then opened the AppVM based on the TemplateVM and attempted to open OpenOffice. The Startup screen briefly flashed on, and then disappeared. I then tried to run it in the terminal, this had the same result, and gave the following error:

OpenOffice runs fine in the template, why doesn’t it work in the AppVM?
Also, I don’t know if this information has any value but openoffice does open in the AppVM if I run it using sudo, this is just inconvenient and it looses all it’s data after a reboot.
Any help will be much appreciated, thanks!

It seems that it’s installing some files in /usr/local directory in template e.g.:

A softlink is created on your /usr/local/bin/ directory. You can always map to the original at /opt/ if it doesnt start for whatever reason.

Maybe there are more files installed there.
This directory is not propagating from template to the AppVM based on this template:

You can move the files installed in /usr/local to a different directory in template.
