Either disk monitor widget or some in-qube service should send an alert to dom0 desktop once a volume is full. First, things happen fast, and the disk monitor widget is rarely the first to react. Second, the complicated structure of Qubes makes it difficult to understand once a component says it is out of disk space – especially if it happens in qubes-dom0-update – exactly where the disk space is exhausted. It may provide a cryptic error message or just fail silently, leaving you to a guesswork. Yikes!
