I was quite surprised today after creating disposable vms to find out that my browser knows everything about my computer model and system. I was very shocked as i thought these were all spoofed once a disposable vms are fired up. With that being said. does means that all vms that i created and networked through sys-whonix knows the exact architecture of my computer(host name, model, memory, etc)?
wouldnt this mean i was compromised if i was trying to maintain anonimity being that i have used this same computer to access clearnet sites with just regular sys-firewall network.
wouldnt that my computer fingerprint is already on the clearnet and being that i sometimes browse with sys-whonix my hardware architecture would have linked me to my other vms that i had used with sys-firewall??
The only reason Qubes was developed was security. Reasonable security. And that is the only reason I’m using it.
I am amazed to constantly read people using Qubes because of anonymity. The same anonymity that is provided by community, not developers themselves?!
In a real life, I am also amazed by people using car alarms expecting to prevent their cars from being stolen.
Do I use Qubes for anonymity? Yes. For the same reason I’m using car alarm - to restrain/prevent junkies and small crooks to steal my car. There’s no chance to prevent skillful adversary from stealing my car.
So I carefully look for what purposes I’m using tor.
But, all of this is just a realization of my carefully developed threat model. Not seen many people even here have it.
