I have two T430, both with the same specs.
Upgrades:
- i7-3840QM
- Crucial RAM 16GB Kit (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz
- Samsung 860 PRO 1TB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD
- Intel 7260.HMW Dual Band Wireless-AC
- StarTech.com 1 Port Flush Mount ExpressCard SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Card
- B140HAN01.3 FHD 1920x1080 High Gamut IPS LCD LED Display Panel
- 1080p IPS FHD Upgrade Kit
- 5V CPU Cooling Fan With Heatsink 04W3270
I love this machine, because …
- … it’s a 10+ year old ThinkPad: everything is fully supported and super stable
- … it’s Ivy Bridge, so Intel ME can be nearly fully removed and disabled
- … I have measured boot secured by heads and hardware HOTP (Nitrokey/Purism Key)
- … 16GB is plenty, especially when using debian-minimal based qubes
- … the upgraded fan and my custom thinkfan config make it very quiet except when under full load
- … the carefully chosen SSD combined with BTRFS give a nice performance boost
The second exact same machine is my backup, just in case anything ever happens to the first one. That’s how much I like it.
To your question: no issues. The fan / heat sink can handle it. The external power supply does get a bit hot, but maybe that’s normal even with a 35w CPU. Anyway… I use this machine for pretty much exactly a year. Every day – all day. Highly recommend.
