Second best, comparably cheap alternative to Compaq 8200 Elite SFF?

Greetings,

Pardon my impatience, but I’ve looked a bit at the HCL and for a second I was tempted to order a second-hand HP Compaq 8200 Elite SFF as it fits my shoestring budget (less than 75 euros ideally for the system alone, some extra money for the extra RAM) and scores green on all sections on the HCL… However, it’s a rather old PC by now and it seems to have been last tested on Qubes 4.0.

Should I just take the plunge with this old Compaq (my current HP SFF, which otherwise lacks VT-x, is a bit newer) or not? I am not sure how to look in the HCL for a slightly more up-to-date hardware, second-best solution that might be still fairly workable with Qubes (I am not sure how to interpret the “blue” section on TPM though) that could be found second-hand for comparably cheap…

Thank you all, stay safe!
Peace,

From that year (2018), you could get a Thinkpad T480 or similar that will def work. Make sure it’s the 8th gen quad core cpu not 7th dual core.

If that’s too expensive in your region, a dual core T470 (or T570, T470s) will also work but will run slower.

If you get one with 16gb memory it will be workable though not optimal.

Up to you, but I recommend saving up as that will significantly broaden your options.
