Safest way to connect phone for USB tethering?

What is the safest way to connect a phone to a Qubes computer for USB tethering?

Also wondering about safely connecting wired or wireless USB network adapters.

Safest against what exactly?

Safest in case my phone’s software is compromised.

Well I guess a minimal USB/net qube and a motherboard with good firmware and isolation features.

How is the motherboard’s firmware related to that exactly? Isn’t sys-usb should take care of these type of attacks

So the right way to do this is attach the phone to sys-usb? Will it appear in network manager at that point?

If your phone’s software is compromised, then it should not be trusted to interact with other devices.

Well I consider any iOS/Android device that’s constantly online to be potentially compromised. Is there a safe way to connect such a device to Qubes for USB tethering, or is that not recommended?

Would USB tethering be facilitated by attaching the device to sys-net?

It may be safer if you use a separate/compartmentalized, completely offline Qubes OS computer for ingress operations.

I do know the USB controller’s firmware is at risk when attaching any USB device to Qubes. Is there any other risk associated with attaching a phone to Qubes over USB?

USB tethering is sharing a phone’s internet connection with a computer over USB. Can that be done safely with Qubes?

It is not clear what assets you are trying to protect.

I’m not sure what you mean. I’m trying to find a safe and recommended way to connect my Qubes system to my phone.

What is potentially at risk with this operation?

Well that’s part of my question. By connecting my phone to my Qubes system I believe I’m risking the integrity of the USB controller and I’m wondering if there are other risks I’m unaware of, and if so how best to mitigate them.

Other connected USB devices may be affected, so as a precaution, disconnect them before using sys-usb for USB tethering with your phone.
