Restoring R4.2 templates on R4.3

Hi,

yesterday I upgraded my laptop from R4.2 to R4.3. As I had only a few dom0 customizations I decided to take the backup+fresh install+restore route.

My system only has 2 templates: debian-13-xfce and fedora-42-xfce.

I use the debian-13-xfce as the default template and it is the template of all my qubes (I’ve used debian since several years ago and I feel more confortable with it than with fedora). The fedora-42-xfce template is only used as a dispvm template in case I need to test something with fedora.

As I’ve done several customizations to my debian-13-xfce template I decided to restore it on R4.3.

  • Is this against upgrade recommendations?
  • Am I setting myself up for future problems?

The first thing I noticed is that I needed to modify /etc/apt/sources.list.d/qubes-r4.list (changing 4.2 references to 4.3). So I did it (and upgraded the template, of course).

  • Is there something else I should modify?

And one last question:

  • What should I modify on my fedora-42-xfce template for R4.3? (as I said, I’m not so used to tinkering with fedora).

Thank you very much in advance. And thanks to the Qubes team, of course!

Use this guide with stage 4 and 5:
install the package qubes-dist-upgrade:
sudo qubes-dom0-update qubes-dist-upgrade
then:
qubes-dist-upgrade --releasever=4.3 -l
qubes-dist-upgrade --releasever=4.3 -x
