Qvm-sync-appmenus: problem with special names of .desktop files

after installing the package “qalculate-gtk” in my debian-12 template, qvm-sync-appmenus could not update the list of installed applications.

the app from the package is named “Qalculate!” - note the “!” - in the file “/usr/share/applications/qalculate-gtk.desktop”.

i removed the “!” from the “Name=…” field within the desktop-file and qvm-sync-appmenus was able to sync everything correctly.

the newly installed app appeared as “Qalculate” in the list of installed applications in Qubes Settings of the vm again.

so i suppose that qvm-sync-appmenus treats “!” somehow special and not as a part of the application names. that’s not the way it should be, of course.

is this a known problem?

thanks … issue too old…

You can report that this issue affects Qubes OS 4.2 as well and not specific to arch templates so it’ll have appropriate tag.
