• gui-agent-linux v4.3.14 (r4.3)

  • Some more work on sending application icons from VM side. Icons for Signal messenger (e.g. installed from Flathub) should be visible now.
  • Archlinux users have been experiencing multiple audio breakage due to multiple pulseaudio version bumps. It should not happen very much since Arch now provides pulseaudio snapshots and Qubes is utilizing them.

  Minor fixes for new standalone qube maximum memory and template manager button colors.

• ansible v1.2.5-1 (r4.3)

  • Assuring dom0 plays will be executed directly and not via a (disposable) proxy. Whether you use localhost or dom0.
  • Properly wait for qube shutdown if wait=True, using integrated events instead of a dumb loop.
  • Fixing Ansible proxy on Debian based (disposable) proxies.

• desktop-linux-manager v4.3.23 (r4.3)

  • Assuring Qui Devices widget does not crash if user tries to attach a device to a qube which is denied by policies. This is mostly useful in enterprise environments.
  • Minor fix for new qube tooltips.

• salt v3007.8-1 (r4.3)
  Fixing salt for Fedora 43 templates

• video-companion v1.1.7-1 (r4.3)
  video-companion v1.1.7-1 (r4.2)

  • Allowing video-companion to be used with (password-less root) on Kicksecure & Whonix Workstation (but does anyone attach a webcam to a Whonix qube anyways? :/).
  • Allowing multiple video devices for simultaneous webcam and screen sharing. But it appears more work is needed if user has more than one video input device (e.g. a capture device, multiple webcams, …). This should be work in progress and more rewrite of video-companion is expected in near future.

• app-linux-input-proxy v1.0.45 (r4.3)

  We had a recent patch to allow accepting only specific HID input devices (keyboards & mice) based on the vendor and the model. With this new patch, filtering based on device serial number is also possible. However, many devices might not provide a serial number at all (e.g. my old IBM mouse and Logitech LX3). I did not manage to contact the PR author to query about the recommended models which might provide a serial number. This could be disabled by setting input-proxy-exclude-serial future of USBVM. You may find serial of USB devices by running sudo lsusb -v | less on your USBVM and look for iSerial field.

  linux-firmware v20251111-1 (r4.2)
  Update for firmwares mostly submitted by hardware vendors to Linux kernel. This includes patches for some Realtek bluetooth controllers, Mediatek 2.5G Ethernet, Some HP & ASUS hardware, AMD CPUs, Intel GPU, AMD GPU and many other. Summary here.

  intel-microcode v20251111-1 (r4.2)
  Intel microcode patches for 30 new security advisories. Some details here.

• mgmt-salt-dom0-virtual-machines v4.3.12 (r4.3)
  Allowing sys-audio to query preload property. If you had enabled sys-audio in the past, I am not sure if this patch is automatically applied to your existing sys-audio policy. Maybe looking at the patch and applying the changes manually would be a good idea.

• core-agent-linux v4.2.44 (r4.2)
  This patch contains many of the fixes which were tested on r4.3 and are now back-ported to r4.2. I am not going to repeat them.

• salt v3007.7-1 (r4.3)
  Bumping salt version and assuring it works on Fedora 43 (which has Python 3.14).

• qubes-release v4.2-14 (r4.2)
  Protecting qubes-core-dom0 from removal.

I’ve never heard of this before. Along with sys-audio, sys-gui, QubesOS
keeps surprising me with “esoteric” stuff. Where can I learn more about
the video-companion, how to use it, how it can be used, etc.? Is there
going to be an “announcement blog post” for this feature?

I hope the post shared earlier clarifies the Qubes Video Companion story. There are also multiple posts on the forum about it. And the README file on its Github repo is awesome.

I have an external capture device which makes it possible to do a screen recording on how to use a screen recorder! But I believe it is not that much necessary. Maybe in the future, I would consider a video blog format for some of the updates.

This would be very interesting.
I have been looking at the various Cherry “Secure” keyboards, which seem to offer the ability to install a private key and fully encrypt the KB data, theoretically eliminating loggers, badUSB and a host of other ills. Information about them seems to be very thin, though… Hopefully they would identify themselves, even when used in non-encrypting mode.

They are pretty ugly though, with an obtrusive built-in cardreader! I guess you can’t have everything.

Hi, The other day I tried a video call with a friend. I am not experienced in that. We both used Tox chat (qTox) as I thought it would be a much better alternative to the proprietary programs. Before all that, I installed it in a Whonix Workstation template and when testing between 2 AppVMs everything seemed to work - I could see and hear myself in the receiving VM with a little delay (which seems normal as networking is not instant). The only issue was that I had to reduce the video quality …

I am also looking for a way to test directly, without network, first. that is why I wrote this: My problem is related to Bluetooth only by the way, not a “cabled” microphone, therefore it might not be the same issue for you. I think your issue is slightly different, but still can have the cause in the quantum value. Only way to know for sure is trying Go…

Ok. Let me try to provide a solution. Or at least a solution to what I believe to be the underlying issue to your problem.

• Simple answer:
  Try updating over yum.qubes-os.org URL instead of the onion address (which could still be over sys-whonix). And see if the error goes away.
  The other solution is looking at the list of official mirrors. Then selecting the onion address from Ignite Refereeing. NOT the one from LAYLO or the distributed one from The Qubes OS Project. And update your /etc/yum.repos.d/qubes-dom0.repo file in dom0 accordingly.
• Detailed answer:
  It appears that the LAYLO mirror is broken (at the time of writing this post). If you go to their onion address, it does not open at all. If you go to their clear-net link, it is empty.
  Qubes OS onion mirror might be just a balancer and it might be forwarding your requests to the broken onion mirror. And the balancer might be failing to detect the dead mirror. But I might be totally wrong on this. If you want a better answer, please be patient and wait for a reply on Github.
