Highlights

This week is relatively quiet. The new Qubes Video Companion v1.1.1.1 from last week is built and uploaded for more testing templates. We only have update to Linux Firmware package.

Details

linux-firmware v20240513-1 - These are the upstream upgrades, fixes, updates mostly submitted by Hardware vendors (Intel, AMD, et. al) directly to kernel to add better support for their products. Sometimes bug fixes & improvements by individual users & projects. The details of all changes could be found on Fedora website. I have seen a a Github issue on i915 which might be related.

[How to file a helpful issue](https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/issue-tracking/) #…## Qubes OS release 4.1 ### Brief summary I plug the Atheros (ath9k) USB WiFi dongle (TPLink TL-WN722N) and after loading it with some traffic (e.g. 10-20 Mbps), sys-net becomes unresponsive and networking stops. ### Steps to reproduce 0. Have the default `sys-net` as per default initial Qubes OS installation (Fedora based) 1. Plug the Atheros (ath9k) USB WiFi dongle (TPLink TL-WN722N). 2. Load it with some traffic (e.g. 10-20 Mbps) ### Expected behavior `sys-net` should work fine. ### Actual behavior `sys-net` becomes unresponsive and networking stops. Sometimes even `dom0` cannot kill `sys-net`. I have noticed on some occasions that even dom0 becomes unresponsive in such situations, then a hard reset is the only way out of it. I can't find an exact pattern of which happens when but the fact is that it doesn't work as expected. The same WiFi dongle works flawlessly on my regular Linux systems. On Qubes OS Internet through Ethernet works fine. Other (non-ath9k) USB WiFi dongle I tested worked fine too. The USB port is not the issue - I tried them all and other devices work fine on all ports.

I am not certain. Release notes by Peter Robinson has hints on ath10k, ath11k & ath12k series (WCN3990, WCN6855 hw2.0, WCN6855/WCN6750/IPQ8074,WCN3990/QCA9888/QCA4019/QCA6174, WCN7850 chips). No reference to ath10k. That Github issue might need more information (VID/PID …).

p.s.: Also those Firmware are for dom0. Mostly affecting storage, video and sometimes sound devices. Mostly devices attached and initialized by dom0. The firmware for USB Network interface should depend on linux-firmware package version of Template VM of sys-usb and sys-net.
