Hi, I have installed Qubes OS and it is running. I can access the Internet when I am connected to a router as normal. Wi-Fi and LAN then work perfectly in Qubes OS.
BUT: When I connect the computer (with Qubes OS) behind a VPN router, I no longer have access to the internet.
Other devices connected to the VPN router (MacBook, Android phone, iOS phone) work fine via LAN and Wi-Fi.
I am using a gl-iNet router (model: GL-BE3600).
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this problem?
What type of VPN? And does it support IPv4 DNS?
Mullvad VPN and the connection is IPv4
What IP range does Mullvad on the router give to clients via the DHCP server? If you are not certain, just looking at the IP/Subnet of one of the clients should be sufficient.
Also try ping -c 5 1.1.1.1 in sys-net and paste the output here. That will help in figuring out what’s going wrong.
The IP range in the DHCP server is from 192.168.8.100 till 192.168.8.249.
The IP address in sys-net for the Ethernet interface is 192.169.8.114 (the same is visible in the router)
If I give a ping for example to “duckduckgo.com” I do receive the correct IP address but there is no data transfer.
If I do, this happens:
5 packets transmitted, 0 receivedm 100% packet loss, time 4080ms
Okay, so that confirms packets are being dropped by the router. What are your firewall rules?
Is this a typo?
There are no explicit firewall rules.
All traffic is allowed within sys-firewall
Yes. Correct ist 192.168.8.114
I believe @shantyspruce was referring to firewall rules on the gl-iNet router. No firewall rules there? Or MAC filtering (since Qubes OS enables WiFi MAC randomization since r4.1).
Thank you for this hint.
In the “parent control” settings in the VPN router was the Qubes OS device not listet, so WAN was blocked by the router settings.
