I have configured the security settings on my FRITZ!Box so that only known devices are allowed to connect via Wi-Fi. I would like to keep this setting enabled.
However, Qubes seems to use a different MAC address every time it restarts when trying to connect to the Wi-Fi, which prevents the connection from being established.
How can I configure Qubes so that it uses a consistent MAC address and works better with this setup?
That is a NetworkManager configuration issue, nothing Qubes specific. Have a look at the arch wiki.
Heads up - if you run your network qube as a disposable, you will probably have to work with bind-dirs to get the config persistent.
Unfortunately, I don’t have the technical background to solve the problem based on the two links. However, I can say that it only occurs on the laptop running Qubes. None of the Windows laptops are affected.
You need to check the settings of your sys-net wifi connection…
Click (or right-click?) on your sys-net wifi icon (in the taskbar/infobar) and look for preferences/settings to change there the entry for MAC address to use always the same MAC or at least don’t run the “randomize MAC” entry at all.
