I tried installing Qubes 4.3 on my NIitropad X230 today. Unfortunately I cannot boot from the installation stick. I have already tried a two different usb sticks and all boot options. The issues persists. The computer freezes on a black screen without any errors displayed.
Does anybody have the same issues? Did somebody install 4.3 on any Nitropad successfully yet?
Hm, it does work on x230 for me. Are you using USB stick with ISO + signature file include, or DD of just the ISO file? The former may not work, since the R4.3 signing key was included in Heads only recently (few weeks ago) and likely you have an older version. But the latter approach should work.
The installation worked for me (t430) with the kernel last option without any issues. I used the original heads firmware last version (commit: 3b656d0) not nitrokey.
Now I have also updated my T430 with only minor issues using the in-place method. I am rather certain that the issues result from an incompatibility between the installer and the Heads/Frimware version.
The above solution did not work for me:
Started with a Nitropad V56, Heads, and Qubes 4.2 installed by Nitrokey.
Attempted USB install of Qubes 4.3 unsuccessful with a USB created using dd. The USB is not found after switching to Basic Boot Menu, , , , after “Scanning for USB devices” I get an error: USB Drive Missing. This USB was successfully used to install 4.3 on a separate computer without Heads.
Attempted in-place upgrade to 4.3 multiple times but failed during the pre-reboot stages; was short on memory by ~500 Mb and I’m not clear how to correct that. So presently the V56 shows 4.3 under Global Config even though 4.3 install is not complete.
Attempted USB install with ISO and detached *.asc file and failed because can’t check signature.
Questions:
is there a way to force an install with only the ISO?
Given the odd-configuration of the system presently (partially installed 4.3), would a migration be advisable? (i.e. attempt to restore a backup from another computer upgraded to 4.3?)
Or how does one increase the memory for an in-place upgrade?
My preference is for a clean install.
Thanks in advance
update:
I resolved the issue by using balena etcher to flash the USB. I suspect when using dd previously I made an inadvertent error. So issue resolved and Q4.3 is installed.
