I have a strange problem that I don’t know how to fix myself. I am hoping you can help me.
Basically what happens is that when I move my mouse and click to select something, sometimes the selection stops without me removing my finger. So I click and move, but QubesOS stops the selection when I keep my finger down (so that is an issue with selecting text, moving windows around, etc.). Then it starts selecting again and stops again with different amounts of selection (sometimes just a few characters, sometimes I manage to select a whole line of text). Since I basically edit text for a living, this makes QubesOS completely unusable for me.
I checked with my touchpad and external USB mouse. Both have the same problem, while the mouse works fine on other systems. So I would say it is a QubesOS configuration or software bug.
My computer is very powerful. It’s a 12Gen Intel with 12 cores, including 4 performance cores (P-cores) and 8 efficient cores (E-cores). I also have 64GB of RAM. I have not yet checked if the problem is more pronounced when the PC is stressed, but I will report on that later. However, I have had a much less powerful PC before and it worked just fine. This behavior happens everywhere: moving windows around (like snapping them to the side), selecting text in Terminal, selecting text in the message box of this forum in my browser, selecting text in VS Code. It’s a whole QubesOS problem in my opinion and misbehaves with touchpad and external mouse.
The advice Solene gave you is solid (detect unsolicited input).
Definitively your computer does not seems to lack hardware capatibilities
Have you also tried to install the latest kernel in dom0 ? (qubesos is known to struglle with latest hardware, altough gen 12 is not anymore cutting edge as 2025 ?)
No events triggered by xev without touching my mouse.
Will test more and come back. Today the problem seems to be less intense. Maybe I just did not use my laptop long enough. Just a few hours in my office.
Does it also happen if you do stuff in dom0? There are not many places to select text that is editable, it’s possible in Thunar when creating directories / renaming files.
