Progress reporting not supported on all templates

For the past few days, the Update Manager on one of my colleague’s system has failed to show update progress for all templates, displaying the message “Progress reporting not supported” instead. This issue is isolated to this specific system, updates work fine on others. No unusual changes have been made, and dom0 has not been touched on that machine.

Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this and how to fix it?

What are the base template/s of the templates that display “Progress reporting not supported”? After the update is complete does it show the logs then, or never?

The base templates are showing this message, like debian-13-xfce, fedora-43-xfce, whonix-workstation-18.

The Update Manager displays only this additional message: ‘Progress reporting not supported,’ and the progress bar remains at 0%. Otherwise, all update logs are normal, with nothing unusual in them.

Not watching WC finals?

I know that debian-13-minimal will always report ‘Progress reporting not supported’. So I imagine the progress reporting functionality is part of a package that isn’t installed in debian-13-minimal (but is in, say, deban-13-xfce).

So just to verify, on your colleague’s system all templates are displaying this message, not just minimal templates?

Yes, it is happening with all of them, not just the minimal templates, and it started all of a sudden.
