Printing

I am trying to print.

I have created a print qube and attached my printer (canon 2900) to it by usb,but still no printing. On a Starbook.

Can any one help

Did you installed cups?
Did you installed drivers?

Yes I have installed cups and drivers .i have used usb.

did you created print qube on minimal or full template?
I’ve created my print qube on full fedora xfce and it just works

It’s MG2900 series2.

In europe it’s MG2940/2950 only
https://www.canon-europe.com/support/consumer/products/printers/pixma/mg-series/pixma-mg2940.html?type=drivers&language=EN&os=Linux%20(64-bit)

but it’s same driver for those two models, so it might be for all MG2900 series

after installing driver start cups qube and in cups gui add printer

I had the same problem, but installing printer-driver-all-enforce on Debian-based templates solved the issue for USB connections.

Note: The drivers can be outdated, and manufacturers may have newer ones available.

The other solution would be to use a network printer, which works without drivers.

Both solutions require that CUPS and Avahi are enabled in the Qube settings under Services, or enabled temporarily inside the Qube with scripts like this:

setup-printer (text file) of this package (After the Qube reboots, these changes will be deleted. And next time you will need to do this again.)

If you configure a network printer, I suggest adding the printer inside the template VM and temporarily allowing access to sys-firewall for the template VM (make sure to disable it later). This ensures that the settings will not be deleted as they would be in the app VM.

After that, add the printer in the GUI printer settings. If you can, make the printer’s IP address static, otherwise the printer may not be reachable in the future. If the printer has been added, you should disable network access for the template again. Now the printer appears in all AppVMs of that template.

I can only speak from my perspective. I used an Epson printer and it works fine with both drivers from the Debian repository and IPP for network printing.

Even though I only tried it on Debian templates, Fedora will have the same problem. On Qubes, CUPS and Avahi are normally disabled, so it is also necessary to make sure that CUPS and Avahi are enabled in the Qube where you want to print. For USB printing, this should be enough as long as the drivers are installed in the template.
