I was playing with the appearance settings and accidentally deleted a panel. I added back all my usual features (clock, etc) but there’s no option to add the Qube Manager shortcut and Sys-Qubes shortcut such as sys-net, sys-usb, external devices, etc.
How do I go about re-adding these shortcuts to the panel?
Here’s the steps (make sure it is in Dom0):
- Use the combination of Alt and F1 keys at the same time.
- In that XFCE panel window, go to Applications → System Tools → System Settings.
- In the System Settings, navigate to the Personal section → Panel (under the Desktop) and select that.
- Select the “+” button and name your panel.
- Secondary click the panel → “Panel” drop down tool → Panel Preferences.
- Go to Items Tab adding these following items in order:
- Launcher (within that you have to edit the Launcher by clicking the edit button next to the Remove button and add new item by clicking the “+” button and search “Open Qubes Application Menu” and click add at the bottom of the window.)
- Windows Buttons
- Separator
- Workspace Switcher
- Clock
- PulseAudio Plugin
- Power Manager Plugin
- Status Tray Plugin
- Action Button
That’s it! These are simple instruction to follow for everyone who still needed for help. I will make this instruction as part of the Community Guides category.

So I did exactly this, but the problem is that I can’t find how to add the sys-net, sys-usb, and block device shortcut that were in the panel before.
I think it’s part of the system status tray plugin. You have to restart Qubes to let it show up within 2 minutes. Let me know when the problem comes up again.
That’s the one item I can’t add to the panel. The system status tray plugin is greyed out. I’ll restart and see if that fixes it.
Looks like your method works. The only caveat is that a restart is necessary to enable System Tray availability, and a second restart is necessary for Sys-Net and Sys-Whonix tray icons to appear and function.
I have wrote a guide here.
