NovaCustom NV54 / NV56 laptop

I am very excited about the upcoming “next gen Qubes OS” laptops.

What is your opinion of (i.e.):

Needless to say, they won’t be available for a small budget.

  • energy-efficient CPU with AI
  • dGPU Nvidia GeForce RTX
  • energy-efficient DDR5 RAM (96 max), perfomance > 6000 MHz
  • SSD PCIe Gen4 > 7.000MB/s
  • Thunderbolt 4
  • coreboot firmware
  • WiFi7

Did someone already benchmark DDR4 vs. DDR5, SSD Gen4 vs. SSD Gen5 for Qubes OS? OS boot time, VM start / shutdown times?

Edit: NovaCustom laptops has PCIe Gen4 (not Gen5).

I am excited about the possibility of getting an nvidia dGPU with novacustom lappies. I am hoping this message of mine turns into reality some day: Using Hybrid Graphics to play games with seamless GPU accleration - #6 by tanky0u

By the notes on Novacustom website.

NV54 and NV56 can not be purchased with Qubes installed.
Not sure if that means something does not work with qubes, or it is not qubes certified.

Likely need to either plug into mains, or carry a hefty weight battery around with you.

I don’t game, but I have been told, that for gaming, a laptop on WiFi is not as competive as a tower, better on a high speed wired in connection than WiFi.

Anyway, personally I do not have like over four grand to buy a maxxed out laptop. But I really do not like the 14 inch screen limit. so I do worry bout getting more minimal 16 inch laptop that is Dasharo, and runs qubes.

Keep us informed.

Edit: Just looked, Nitrokey NV56 is already offering the 16 inch for sale with Dasharo and qubes. My minimal choice with be like $2500.00, plus I dunno about customs and taxes. Novacustom must be waiting on testing later processors, and becoming qubes certified.

Last I checked, Novacustom was trying to get these laptops qubesOS certified, before releasing them with qubesOS pre-installed.

You will also have the possibility to ask for whatever detail.

For those who missed it, the V56 Series is going to be certified in parallel with the Qubes OS R4.2.3 release within two weeks from now. We recommend everyone to wait for the public announcement due to configuration restrictions of the certification.
