LibreOffice is very slow (unlike other programs)

Dear Qubes community,

If a LibreOffice text document has several pages and some formatting, scrolling is very slow (debian 12, Qubes 4.2). Moving slides in LibreOffice Impress is also very slow. The AppVM has eight gigabytes of RAM and four vCPUs. The computer is actually very fast in terms of hard disk and CPU. Is there a way to solve this?

Were you installing any KDE-related tools or stuff in your template before?

Same here.

Have you tried to enable skia rendering?

Tools > Option > LibreOffice > View
Use Skia for all rendering
Force Skia software rendering

Scrolling large documents (600 pages) does take a lot of CPU on my system, but I don’t have issues with it not being smooth.

This solution works perfectly: Making LibreOffice run at an acceptable speed under Qubes OS — Rudd-O.com

Yes - works for us also, in v4.2

This ought to be installed out of the box, libreoffice is unusable without it!

On the last Debian13 VM, this is working except that now kf6 is replacing kf5. So similar procedure, with ‘apt install libreoffice-kf6’ and ‘export SAL_USE_VCLPLUGIN=kf6’ in file ’ /etc/profile.d/libreoffice_kf6.sh’
