Remarks

Ethernet requires no-strict-reset. Even with workaround, Wi-Fi breaks on suspend; restart sys-net to unbreak. Built-in audio doesn’t work out of the box; haven’t diagnosed root problem.

Will you provide any updates to your experience with this machine? I just purchased one (AMD version) and intend to try 4.2RC on it.

Remarks

Works great more or less out of box, save for the wireless.
Swapping the Wi-Fi chip was quite easy, just a few screws on the bottom of the laptop, and then pry it open. See report for replacement wireless chip hardware.

Only annoyance is that the trackpad has a bit of difficulty with the built-in left/right click, but I have not tested this on another OS, so I am unsure if this is a hardware or driver issue. However, the trackpad also has left/middle/right click buttons above it (below the keyboard), so I just use these, instead.

Touch screen and media keys work great out of box.

Seemingly, doesn’t work with sys-gui-gpu, just boots to a blank screen, or a blinking cursor, depending on configuration.

I may have done something wrong, but after 3+ days I gave up on it.

Runs sys-gui and sys-gui-vnc just fine, however.

Update:

The trackpad’s mouse is totally fine, actually

When I took apart the laptop, I accidentally let something, (a piece of electrical tape?) get in the way of one of the shell’s clips near the trackpad. I unscrewed the bottom, popped everything correctly into place, and now the trackpad works great!

Remarks

Qubes is a joy on this machine.

  • Fresh install of 4.3 release
  • Prior to install, updated BIOS and hardware/controllers firmware to latest
  • Replaced stock WD 512GB SSD with SK hynix 1TB Gold P31 PCIe NVMe M.2 Gen3
  • 32GB RAM added for 48GB total
  • Suspend works very well - did change BIOS setting from “Windows + Linux” to “Linux”
  • Install choked on the ethernet controller - "“Error: Start failed: internal error: Unable to reset PCI Device 0000:00.1f.6: no FLR, PM reset or bus reset available” - so, lazily, I removed the device from sys-firewall settings and carried on
  • WiFi works great
  • Audio works
  • Battery consumption sub-excellent but improved after I decreased # of vCPUs of my custom app qubes
