Is there an "opacity" setting in dom0/xfce?

Hey guys,
I was wondering, is there a “transparency” setting in dom0/xfce?
I would like to make my “fly-outs”,taskbar,context menu a little lighter/clear. So that they are not so dark. Maybe kinda like “see-through”.

Is this possible or a no go?

Thank you

Hey, there’s a couple of places you can tweak transparency in Xfce:

  • In the panel settings, there are two sliders that control the opacity. You can also choose to hide the panel there.
  • In the window manager tweaks under “Compositor”, there are sliders to control the opacity of the window and its decorations. There you can also set a custom opacity when the window moves, is resized, goes out of focus, more.
  • Set opacity for the terminal in its settings

If you need more granular control you can add custom styles in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css. The supported properties and naming in Xfce is not really documented but it’s worth experimenting. Something you can try is select and style the panel with .panel or .xfce4-panel and the window buttons with .panel .tasklist button.toggle and set their background, border, etc.

Restart the panel or logout to see the changes:

xfce4-panel -r

It’s a bit limited but I hope this gives you options to do what you had in mind.

Thank you, It would be Totally cool to have a more “glass like” look for somethings, kinda see through…

I will check this stuff out!
