Is it safe to use older kernel

I am using kernel 6.6.48-1.fc37 but there is a new 6.10 available. Unfortunately using usb external drives does not work with this kernel so i am using an older one could this be a security problem?

It is better to use the stable kernel.

Just had it demonstrated to me that latest is flawed.

The longterm kernel version 6.6 last release is 6.6.59 so your kernel 6.6.48 is outdated.

Where can i see them in kernel.org? Is there a list of all the kernels? Here it says that 6.6 is longterm does this mean for all releases under 6.6

What do you want to see there?

Linux kernel version history - Wikipedia

The major Linux version 6.6 being longterm means that it’ll be updated with bugfixes in the new minor versions so is you have kernel 6.6.48 with minor version 48 but there is kernel 6.6.59 available then your current kernel is outdated and it’s missing bugfixes that were added in versions 6.6.49-6.6.59.

So what do i do should i install the latest 6.6.59? It is not installed in qubes or should i wait for dom0 update with another kernel release such as 6.6.59? These are all the kernels i have installed

Should i maybe switch to the 6.54?

To see like you said the minor releases, to see if something like my current 6.48 kernel may be outdated. How should i know that 6.48 is outdated.
Thanks

The latest LTS 6.6 kernel version available for dom0 is 6.6.54.
Use the latest available minor version - currently 6.6.54.
It’s up to the Qubes OS developers when to update the kernel version, maybe some tests are not yet passed for kernels newer than 6.6.54:
How to install software in dom0 | Qubes OS

Just update your dom0 normally and if you’ll see the kernel version with higher minor version available then use it if it’s not used by default.

Also note that when you choose the kernel here:

It’s only chosen for the qubes and not for dom0.
You need to select which kernel to use for dom0 in the GRUB menu when you boot Qubes OS.

Thanks will this just change the dom0 or both tge qubes and dom0 and could it be problematic if i have the default kernel in qubes to 6.6 and in dom0 6.11 becuase it always gets set to the most recent kernel by updates? Could you please share for debian too?

Only kernel used by dom0.

No.

What do you mean?
If you want to change the kernel used by the debian qube then you can change it in its Settings or change the default kernel here to be applied for all qubes with kernel set to default:
